How we rank

  • Licensing & safety. The operator must hold a valid licence for your region, full stop. Nothing else on this list matters if this one fails.
  • Welcome-offer fairness. We read the terms — wagering requirements, minimum odds and expiry windows — not just the headline number.
  • Odds quality. We compare prices on the same games across books. A few cents of odds, every bet, is the biggest edge a fan can actually get.
  • App experience. Speed, stability on game day and how fast live markets update.
  • Payouts & support. Withdrawal times people actually experience, and whether a human answers when something goes wrong.

Rankings are editorial. Commissions never buy a higher placement without disclosure — if a placement is paid, it is labeled Sponsored.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Betting offers FAQ

Is online sports betting legal where I live?

It depends on your province or state, because sportsbooks are licensed regionally. Ontario runs an open regulated market overseen by the AGCO and iGaming Ontario. British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan use PlayNow, operated by BCLC. Quebec has Loto-Québec and Alberta has the AGLC. In the US, each state decides for itself. Wherever you are, only bet with an operator licensed in that region, and you must be physically located there when you bet.

Why do offers differ by region?

A sportsbook can only advertise and accept customers where it holds a licence, so the books available — and what they are allowed to say publicly — change at provincial and state lines. Ontario, for example, does not allow bonus or inducement amounts to be advertised anywhere except the operator’s own site, which is why Ontario cards on this page point you to the official site instead of quoting a figure.

How does FanTalkSports make money from this page?

Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, the sportsbook may pay FanTalkSports a commission at no cost to you. That is how we keep the community free. Rankings are editorial, and any placement that is paid for is labelled Sponsored.

What is a wagering requirement?

A wagering (or playthrough) requirement is how many times bonus money must be staked before it or winnings from it can be withdrawn. With a 1x requirement the bonus amount must be staked once in settled bets before a withdrawal; at 10x it must be staked ten times over. Requirements, minimum odds and time limits vary by operator and are always in the offer terms on the operator’s site — read them before you deposit.

How do I set deposit limits?

Every licensed operator must offer responsible-gambling controls. Look in the account or "responsible gambling" section of the sportsbook’s app or site for daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders and time-outs. Setting a limit before your first deposit is the simplest way to keep betting entertainment rather than a bill.

How can I check that a sportsbook is really licensed?

Check the regulator’s public register for your region: iGaming Ontario lists its regulated operators, BCLC runs PlayNow in the west, and US state gaming commissions publish their licensed sportsbooks. If a book is not on your region’s register, it is not licensed to take your bet — no matter what its ads say.
